It takes a special kind of heart to love and raise someone else’s child. It takes a lot of courage and strength. That’s the kind of heart my Dad has. He didn’t have to be my Dad, but he chose to be. He didn’t have to love me, but he chose to.
Being a Dad is not an easy job, and there is no step-by-step instruction manual that comes with it. Through the years there were struggles and trials, but as a family we learned and grew together in strength and character.
When I look back over the years, I see a few things that I learned from my Dad. I learned about commitment, dedication, devotion, self-discipline and sacrifice. He gave himself, his time and his energy, to his family. I also learned about patience. I didn’t know it at the time, but my Dad was planting seeds in me, and those seeds grew and helped me to become the woman I am today.
Perhaps without realizing it, my Dad set the standard for me in what it means to be a good husband in the way he loved my Mom. He also set the standard for what it takes to be a good dad, because he is one to me.
My words are sorely inadequate to convey the full respect, admiration, thankfulness, and love I feel for my Dad. To put it quite simply, my Dad is my Hero.
Happy Father’s Day Dad! I love you very much!
